Progressions' character coaching works because it helps students discover they have the talents and abilities to succeed, the confidence and skills to bounce back from setbacks, and the ability to see themselves achieving their goals. 

Progressions' I Have, I Will, I See model is supported by best practices in coaching and positive psychology and is reinforced by the U.S. Department of Education's draft publication, "Promoting Grit, Tenacity, and Perseverance: Critical Factors for Success in the 21st Century".  (U.S. Department of Education, 2013.)  

The publication sites three major categories of psychological resources that help students succeed in their perseverance: academic mindsets (believing they can succeed), effortful control (the ability to regulate attention in the face of distractions), and strategies and tactics (methods for achieving desired outcome and goals)   .
